100 Days of Gratitude - Day 35 - Snopes.com
Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 12:16PM Today I'm grateful for Snopes.com.
For those of you who don't know about it, Snopes is a website where you can find out if that e-mail you're thinking of forwarding (usually asked to forward to everyone) has any merit or not.
It's designed to put an end to urban legends, misinformation and rampant rumors - the ones that are usually spread by e-mail.
People ask "why can you trust Snopes.com? Well the reason is, accuracy, research and integrity are the product, the ONLY product, that they're offering. If they get caught in an inaccuracy, it devalues the entire site and it no longer has credibility.
Fact is, they will actually pick up the phone and ASK a source if something is true or not. They'll further research when and how a rumor got started. Or, if it's true, they'll provide you with a link to the original story, or if it's partially true, they'll let you know that too.
Please, before you forward anything to me via e-mail that claims that Obama knocked over the World Trade Center so he could get elected as the puppet of a Middle Eastern drug overlord - please look it up on snopes.com first - and if you don't look there - look it up somewhere. BTW, the above statement was completely made up - you won't find anything on snopes about Obama and the WTC etc. I'm telling you here - that was sarcasm and BS.
