100 Days of Gratitude - Day 27 - Smart Phones

Today I'm grateful for smart phones.

I've been an early adopter of technology for as long as I can remember. My first cell phone was an old transportable phone. It had a 3 W battery, a cord that attached to the receiver and you carried it like a purse over your shoulder. It cost .25 a minute to talk on it. And we were thrilled to have it. You could make calls on it even when you weren't in the office. That's all you could do, but you could do it.

I stood in line June 29, 2007 when the first iPhone came out.

My life changed that day.

Sure, there were Blackberry's and other attempts at Smart Phones before the iPhone, but it really revolutionized the industry and got things going and made it all easy to use - now, armed with just an iPhone, I can solve just about any problem handed to me. Of course, if you have a droid, or a current blackberry - you have access to the same stuff, I'm just using iPhone because that's what I have.

This week, while driving across the country, we were able to get another vehicle to a repair shop, contact and insurance company, keep in touch with each other, rent a vehicle, arrange a ride, create a route and book a hotel room during a crisis situation - all while riding in the passenger seat of a car.

We may take this for granted, but, trust me, we're living in the future. Just 5 years ago, this would not have been possible to do as easily as it is now.

My smart phone creates entertainment, acts as an assistant to solve problems, takes video and pictures to document memories (both good and bad) and allows us to share all of those with the world.

So Smart phones... today is for you & I DO NOT take you for granted. I'm thrilled you're here with us.
