100 Days of Gratitude - Day Seven - The Constitution
Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 12:17PM I'm grateful that I live in a country that is guaranteed the freedoms that we have.
The founding fathers were very, very smart people to guarantee us the freedom of speech, religion, right to assembly, freedom from search a seizure etc. that we are guaranteed through the Constitution.
Though some of those rights are under attack (not to get political) I believe in them strongly enough that I'll even defend the rights of people who I disagree with because those freedoms are truly important.
One of my favorite quotes of all time about freedom is by Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller) - he said "In a truly free society, people have to be free to make bad choices."
So if you say something I disagree with, I may disagree, but I'll defend your right to say it.
If you believe some wacky religious stuff (ie. Scientology) that I disagree with, I'll still defend your right to believe it. Though please remember, I'm free to speak out against it too!
When it comes to politics - I think everything should go back to the Constitution and it's wonderful Preamble
Typing now from memory, not cutting and pasting...
We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquiltiy, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish, this Constitution of the United States of America.
Not being political here - being patriotic.
Go America - and any other freedom loving country!
