100 Days of Gratitude - Day Five - My Mom
Friday, January 28, 2011 at 9:28AM I guess I should point out that these are not in any particular order. Just what I'm grateful for at the time of my writing.
In other words - my dogs don't come before my Mom. :-) I'm sure she'll be glad to know this.
I was raised by a single Mom. She sacrificed a lot when I was growing up so that I could have strong male role models in my life. She scrimped and saved and worked more than one job at a time to pay for me to go to the best schools possible.
She set an excellent example of work ethic, one that I still carry with me daily. She showed me the power of goals, of positive thinking, of creating your own path in the world and of belief in ones self.
I bitched and moaned and groaned when I had to go to sales meetings with her early on a Saturday morning, but at those meetings I got to meet amazing people, learn about sales from people like Zig Ziglar, and got an education that most people just don't get.
I further complained when I had to help put together sales training manuals, package products and even go on trips repossessing unpaid security systems - but what I learned from those experiences, I put to use everyday.
I'm not always the best son, in that I get wrapped up in providing for my own wife and kids, but there's not a day that goes by that I don't appreciate my Mom and all she's done for me.
This year for Christmas I gave her lunch, once a month, just the two of us. That gift was as much for me as it was for her.
I love you Mom. Thanks for everything.
